International Education Language Program

George Washington Carver Elementary – IE Spanish*

The International Education Program focuses on language acquisition coupled with a thematic, program-wide cultural integration such that students gain exposure to cultural norms from countries with similar linguistic origins.

In the primary years (grades K – 5), students in the program are expected to progress from a pre-production to an intermediate fluency level in second language acquisition. As students develop language skills, they will be expected to communicate in the second language, especially in social language environments. Students will develop competencies to be able to demonstrate higher order thinking skills in the second language. Students in the primary years program will also engage in afterschool, supplemental instruction in the second language through an Extended Language Enrichment (ELE) program in the upper grades (2-5) to prepare for advancement into the secondary years program.

*Programs have direct articulation agreements.
