INTERESTED FAMILIES
Interested families must complete an application online and submit it to Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) before the January 15, 2024 deadline.
School of Choice and Parental Options website.
Parents will be informed of their child’s application status by March 15, 2024. Parents of accepted students will respond to invitations and register their child between March 15, 2024 and April 05, 2024.
When registering at the school site, bring your Schools of Choice Acceptance Letter and a completed Registration Packet (English | Spanish).
Kindergarten Applicants: Requirements
- Application: Mandatory, sent directly to M-DCPS or completed online through the School of Choice and Parental Options website before January 15, 2024
- All Kindergarten applications are entered into the random selection.
First Grade Applicants: Requirements
- Application: Mandatory, completed online through the School of Choice and Parental Options website before January 15, 2024
- Satisfactory grades (private school and non M-DCPS students must submit a copy of previous year’s grades)
- All eligible First Grade applications are entered into the random selection.
2nd-5th Grade Applicants: Requirements
- Application: Mandatory, completed online through the School of Choice and Parental Options website before January 15, 2024
- Satisfactory grades (private school and non M-DCPS students must submit a copy of previous year’s grades)
- Language Proficiency Test in the Italian language program (Mandatory for all grades 2-5 applicants)
Students who do not complete the Italian language exam part of the application will not be eligible for the program.
Selection Process and Criteria
To be eligible, candidates must:
- have submitted an application by the stated deadline
- have a 2.0 average in all core academics classes (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies)
- Minimum grades of “C” in conduct
- all effort grades in core academics classes must be a “2” or higher
- have no more than 10 unexcused absences for the previous year
- receive a passing grade on the Italian Language Test in grades 2-5
- Applicants who do not qualify will be informed by letter or by email (make sure to enter a correct address and email on your application)
- All eligible applicants are entered in a data base for random selection
- Random selection process: March 7-15, 2024
- Notification sent: March 2024
- Response to notification due: March 15 through March 26, 2024. Response due online or in person to schools
- Students on the Wait List will be called in the order of the random selection as seats open up.
Once all eligible applicants have been entered in the random selection process. Letters will be mailed by March 2024. Parents of accepted students must register their child on or before the April 5, 2024 deadline.
